ComFlor 60 Steel Decking
ComFlor 60 ( CF60) steel decking is the most widely specified composite floor deck in the UK, trusted across commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments. As a 60mm trapezoidal profile, it offers an ideal balance of span performance, fire rating, and installation efficiency, making it the go-to choice for structural engineers and contractors alike.
Designed to meet the requirements of most building projects, ComFlor 60 enables a 120mm slab depth for a 60-minute fire rating, while delivering reliable unpropped spans suited to standard beam grids. Its 600mm cover width keeps sheets lightweight and easy to install, while the profile geometry ensures consistent shear stud positioning without additional site adjustments.
Optional features such as pre-closed ends for pre-studded beams and Colorcoat FD finishes for exposed soffits further enhance its versatility, making ComFlor 60 suitable for everything from large commercial offices to multi-storey residential developments.

Fire Performance
Fire design is in accordance with SCI NCCI PN005 (Eurocode) and SCI Publication P359. Two fire design methods are available in the ComFlor 9 design software: the Mesh and Deck Fire Method (mesh reinforcement only) and the Bar Fire Method (reinforcement bars in each trough, 25mm above the trough base). The Bar Fire Method is required for single-span single-slab configurations and can extend achievable spans at higher fire periods.
The minimum slab depths below are indicative for unpropped construction with normal weight concrete. The 120mm NWC entry for a 60-minute rating is achievable with the Mesh and Deck Fire Method, noting that at this slab depth the mesh cover is reduced to 25mm rather than the standard 30mm. Always verify against project-specific span and load tables.
| Fire rating | Indicative min slab depth, NWC | Indicative min slab depth, LWC |
|---|---|---|
| 1 hour | 120mm | 110mm |
| 1.5 hours | 130mm | 120mm |
| 2 hours | 140mm | 130mm |
| 3 hours | 165mm | 150mm |
| 4 hours | 185mm | 170mm |
Indicative values based on fire insulation requirements per SCI P359. Actual minimum slab depths depend on span, applied load, gauge, and fire design method. Note: the 120mm NWC slab requires mesh cover at 25mm rather than the standard 30mm. Trough bar reinforcement may be required at longer spans or higher fire periods. Always verify with project-specific span and fire tables. Contact our team to confirm requirements for your project.
Finishes and Options
- Galvanised Z275 (Galvatite) — standard coating to BS EN 10346 S350GD+Z275, suitable for internal floors in non-aggressive environments
- Pre-closed ends — factory-applied end closure, particularly suited to pre-studded beams and situations where the deck spans onto a beam already fitted with shear studs. Eliminates the need for on-site filler blocks and gives a clean bearing detail. ComFlor 60 with closed ends can provide cover to the top flange of the supporting beam in accordance with SCI P375 guidance, with potential to reduce or remove the requirement for fire protection to the beam top flange.
- Colorcoat FD pre-finished soffit — factory-applied colour coating to the deck soffit for applications where no suspended ceiling is specified. Available in a range of colours. Produces a clean, consistent ceiling finish without a separate decoration trade.
Why Specify ComFlor 60 Steel Decking?
ComFlor 60 has become the most widely specified composite floor decking system in the UK because it performs reliably across the majority of commercial construction scenarios. Rather than being a compromise, it is often the optimal choice for projects requiring efficient spans, fire compliance, and reduced structural weight.
A key advantage is its ability to achieve a 120mm slab depth for a 60-minute fire rating, which is highly competitive for a 60mm trapezoidal profile. At this depth, the concrete volume is approximately 0.088 m³/m², with a wet concrete dead load of 2.21 kN/m², helping reduce overall structural weight. Across large floor plates, this translates into smaller beams, lower column loads, and more efficient foundation design.
The round-shouldered profile geometry provides excellent resistance to compressive buckling during construction. This allows ComFlor 60 to achieve longer unpropped spans than many traditional trapezoidal decks, improving installation speed and reducing the need for temporary works.
For projects using pre-studded beams, the closed ends option ensures the decking fits cleanly over shear studs without on-site modification. This improves installation consistency while supporting beam top flange fire protection benefits in line with SCI P375, potentially removing the need for additional fire protection measures.
