A Bespoke Metal Decking Solution in the Heart of Hampstead

RMD Profiles recently completed the supply and design package for a new build residential project at Hampstead Hill Gardens, situated in one of North London’s most prestigious neighbourhoods. Working closely with main contractor RedSP, our team provided a tailored composite floor decking solution that met the structural, architectural, and programme requirements of this high-specification build.

Scope of Works

Our Supply & Design package included:

Composite Metal Floor Decking:
Installation designed using MetFloor 60 (1.2mm gauge) for both the first and second floor slabs, each with a 150mm slab depth. This profile was selected for its high load capacity, long-span performance, and ease of installation in confined urban sites.
Edge Trim & Detailing:
Precision-made 0.9mm girth edge trims (99 linear metres) to maintain correct slab depth and concrete containment.
Design Coordination:
Full layout drawings showing deck pack orientation, paint mark guidance, and temporary propping requirements to ensure compliance with manufacturer guidelines and SCI P300 best practice.
Fixings & Accessories:
DX76-compatible red shot nails and consumables to facilitate efficient and secure installation.

Why MetFloor 60 Was the Right Choice

MetFloor 60 was chosen for its:

Exceptional spanning capability – unpropped spans over 4.5m, reducing the need for intermediate supports.
Fire performance – achieving up to 120 minutes fire resistance at specified slab depths without additional soffit protection.
Reduced concrete usage – optimising weight and cost without compromising performance.
Central stud positioning – ensuring excellent composite action between steel beams and concrete slabs.

Site Constraints & Design Considerations

The Hampstead Hill Gardens project presented several site-specific challenges:

Tight urban site access – requiring efficient material delivery scheduling and pack placement in coordination with the steel erection programme.
Neighbourhood sensitivities – careful planning to minimise noise and disruption in a high-value residential area.
Precision engineering – to accommodate architectural slab edge details and avoid clashes with M&E services.

By integrating early with the client’s team, RMD Profiles ensured that all slab edges, voids, and service penetrations were incorporated into the design before manufacture, preventing costly site alterations.
