Quick Answer to our metal decking services: MetFloor and ComFlor experts
- Supply only: we deliver the decking and components, your team handles the design and the fixing.
- Supply and design: we add the layout drawings and technical support, your team fixes the deck.
- Supply and fix: we supply and install the deck, so one team hands you a finished floor.
Choose on three things: do you have a fixing crew, do you have design support, and how much do you want to keep in house.
Not sure? Tell us how your team is set up and we will point you to the right one.
Why the service choice matters
Metal Decking benefits go far and wide. Choosing the right metal decking service is often the first decision on a project, and it shapes more than you might think. It affects your programme, how much labour you tie up, who carries the design responsibility, and where the risk sits if something needs sorting on site. Get the match right for how your team is set up and the floor runs smoothly. Get it wrong and you either end up short of resource, or paying for support you did not need.
There is no single best option. There is only the option that fits your project, your crew and your programme. Here is what each one covers so you can choose with confidence.
Supply only
Supply only is exactly what it says. We provide the decking and the associated components, delivered to site on time, and your own team handles the design input and the installation.
It suits contractors who have their own fixing crews and their drawings in hand, and simply need a reliable supplier to get the right material to site when the programme calls for it. If you have the resource and the technical cover in place, supply only keeps you in full control and keeps the cost lean.
Supply and design
Supply and design adds our technical support to the material. Our drawing office helps with the decking layout drawings, the profile selection and the details that make a floor go down cleanly, then we supply the deck to suit. Your team still fixes it.
It suits teams who can install the deck themselves but want a specialist to get the design right, pick up the awkward details early, and reduce the risk of a hold up on site. It is the middle ground between doing everything in house and handing the whole floor over.
Supply and fix
Supply and fix is the full package. We supply the decking and install it with our own fixing teams, so you hand the floor over to one team and get a finished result back, whether you’re choosing MetFloor or ComFlor – we know what we are doing.
It suits projects where you would rather not tie up your own labour, where you want a single point of responsibility for the floor from drawing to deck down, or where you simply want the job taken care of. One team, one contact, one result.
A quick way to decide
It usually comes down to three questions:
- Do you have your own fixing crew? If yes, supply only or supply and design may be enough. If no, supply and fix fits.
- Do you have the technical support to get the design right? If no, supply and design or supply and fix takes that off your plate.
- How much do you want to keep in house? The more you want handled for you, the further along the scale you go, from supply only through to supply and fix.
If you have everything covered, supply only works. If you want the design taken care of, supply and design fits. If you want the whole floor handled, supply and fix is the one.
Can you combine or switch?
You are not locked into a rigid box. Plenty of projects sit somewhere in between, and the right answer can change from one phase to the next. If you are not sure where your project lands, that is exactly the kind of thing a quick call sorts out. We would rather help you pick the right level of support than sell you more than you need.
How RMD Profiles supports each route
Whichever route suits you, we are set up for it. We supply the full ComFlor and MetFloor ranges, our drawing office provides design support, and we have our own fixing teams for supply and fix and fix only work. That means the same team can support you whether you want material only or a finished floor.
For more on getting the deck to land cleanly on the steel, see our guide on metal deck bearing and the 50mm rule. If you are weighing up profiles as part of this, our guide on why deeper deck profiles reduce steelwork is a useful read too.
Frequently asked questions on metal decking
What is the difference between supply only and supply and fix?
Supply only means we deliver the decking and your team installs it. Supply and fix means we deliver and install it with our own fixing teams, so you get a finished floor from one supplier. The difference is who does the fixing and who carries responsibility for the installation.
Do I need supply and design if I already have a structural engineer?
Not necessarily. If your engineer or steelwork designer is providing the decking layout and details, supply only may be all you need. Supply and design is there for teams who want a decking specialist to produce the layout drawings and handle the profile selection and details.
Can you install metal decking that we bought elsewhere?
Yes. That is our fix only service. If the material is already sorted but you need an experienced crew to fix it correctly and safely, we can help. We are experienced experts in RoofDek, ComFlor and MetFloor products.
Which service is best for a tight programme?
It depends on where your pressure is. If labour is your constraint, supply and fix takes the installation off your hands. If design is the hold up, supply and design gets the drawings moving. Tell us the programme and we will suggest the route that protects it.
Do you offer design support with supply only?
Supply only is material only by definition, but if you find you need design input partway through, we can bring in our supply and design support. It is easy to step up a level if the project calls for it.
Who is responsible for the design in each service?
With supply only, the design sits with your team or your engineer. With supply and design and supply and fix, we take on the decking layout and details. In every case the supporting steelwork is designed by the steel frame designer.
Not sure which service you need?
If you are weighing up which route fits, tell us a bit about the project and we will point you to the right level of support. Helpful things to send:
- the project location and programme dates
- whether you have your own fixing team
- whether you have decking drawings and design support in place
- the deck profile and quantity, if known
- any phasing or access requirements
